About Our Event

“. . . . .  a wonderful yoga retreat with lasting benefits and a great time with good friends.” K.S. 2019 retreat participant

Find the Heart of the Dragon in the mountains and the hot springs of this quiet Colorado community.  Find healing in the holy waters revered by the ancient inhabitants of this wonderful land.  Join in ceremonies and meditations at temples and holy sites.  Practice healing techniques for mind, body, and spirit including yoga, aqua yoga, qi gong, acupressure, sound healing, and reiki.

This retreat is for those who are healers and those who want to be healed, for those who want to experience the power of the mountains and the peace of the hot springs, for those who want first hand experience with different spiritual traditions and the people who practice these traditions.  And it's for those who just want to relax and absorb the beauty and energy of this place.

Crestone is located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (which some say appears to be a sleeping dragon).  Crestone is a small town with a population of about 200.  It is surrounded by a large Land Grant area called the Baca Grande.  The owners/caretakers of the land grant have generously given property to over two dozen spiritual groups for use as retreat centers and to preserve world wisdom traditions in harmony with nature.

We will be touring/visiting the following spiritual centers:

            -The Crestone Mountain Zen Center

            -Haidakhandh Universal Ashram (Hindu traditional)

            -Shumei Institute (Japanese Non-denominational Center)

-Vajra Vidya Retreat Center (Tibetan Buddhist)

            - Sangdo Palri Temple of Wisdom and Compassion  (Tibetan Buddhist)

            - Shakti Sharanam Yoga Shala - A Heritage Keeper Yoga Studio

We will also visit the I Am Harmony rock gardens, two stupas, and the Ziggurat.

Hi.  I am Bob Ferry and I fell in love with Crestone after my first stay here in 2014.  I visited Crestone for the first time in 2014 after retiring from the environmental field and fell in love with the beauty and the spiritual energy that surrounds the area.  I want to share that beauty and spirituality with you.  Please join us on this retreat and experience this for yourself in a site that does not require you to fly halfway around the world.

I have been practicing yoga and meditation since 1973 and had developed an interest in yoga and higher consciousness in the late 1960’s when because of the Beatles and Robert Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" I wanted to run away from my small Tennessee town and become a San Francisco hippie.  Instead I became a hippie sympathizer (we called ourselves Freaks), graduated from college in 1974 with a Chemistry degree, and instead of working at a factory making chemicals I moved into the environmental field as an environmental scientist and spent the next 40 years doing my part in protecting and cleaning our Mother Earth.  This involved, among other things, hazardous waste site cleanups, landfill inspections, water treatment, air monitoring, and inspections of very many industries.  I began teaching yoga in 1990 and started teaching Qi Gong and Tai Chi in 2014 while working with students with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

TESTIMONIALS

Bob Ferry is such a fantastic teacher! Bob's gentle approach to yoga just makes everyone feel better. As a yoga teacher for over twenty years, Bob knows how to bring out the best in his students. By the end of each class our cares and worries float away. His flute playing skills during meditation is a wonderful gift to the students.

Bob Ferry has been my Adaptive Tai Chi for Multiple Sclerosis teacher for the past 5 years.  With my initial balance issues, he was able to have me stay in a chair and work my way to a standing position.  In the same way he works with other people who come to the class in other stages  of MS and knows how to adapt the whole class to fit everyone’s needs.  He is a great teacher and always brings new forms to the classes. This keeps the class fun.

My Tai Chi / Qi Gong class with Bob Ferry has become one of my favorite activities each week.  He is an excellent instructor and is extremely patient with every student, from the absolute beginner to those who have some experience.  He welcomes questions from his students and will often answer them with his droll sense of humor.  I highly recommend his class and I am confident you will enjoy the time you spend with him.

I have been taking Bob’s Tai Chi for MS class since January 2016.  I thoroughly enjoy his class and I have seen considerable improvement in my balance and coordination.  Bob is a very kind, spiritual and inspirational teacher.  He is one of the people who inspired me to become a Yoga Teacher!
